West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare Cyclone Amphan as nationwide catastrophe.
She made the request on the Kolkata airport on Friday whereas receiving PM Modi who reached West Bengal to take inventory of the devastation brought on by the cyclone. PM Modi will conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas.
Banerjee had earlier pitched for central help and appealed to PM Modi to go to the cyclone-hit areas. The state authorities had moved out 5 lakh individuals to protect them from the cyclone that roared into the state on Wednesday, packing winds gusting to a prime velocity of 185 kmph.
The chief minister had earlier stated on Thursday that Rs 1,000 crore fund has been created for restoration work for areas affected by Cyclone Amphan. She additionally stated that the cyclone has claimed the lives of 80 individuals within the state, based on information company ANI.
PM Modi had assured West Bengal on Thursday that the nation stands in solidarity with it because the state counts its losses within the wake of cyclone Amphan.
“Have been seeing visuals from West Bengal on the devastation brought on by Cyclone Amphan. On this difficult hour, your entire nation stands in solidarity with West Bengal. Praying for the well-being of the individuals of the state. Efforts are on to make sure normalcy,” the Prime Minister had stated in a tweet.
Cyclone Amphan has left 72 individuals useless and 1000’s homeless in West Bengal, battering a number of elements of the state and washing away bridges and swamping low-lying areas.
Two groups of the Nationwide Catastrophe Aid Fund (NDRF) have been airlifted by Indian Air Pressure (IAF) from Pune to Kolkata on Thursday, to assist in the rescue and reduction operations.
